Julep: Cleopatra

Hey everybody! Ready for Halloween?! I'm... not. I have to finish my costume tonight. lol Just a couple of seams to sew, but still. I really should get on that. Today I've got Cleopatra from Julep's October box. I don't think I even debated getting this one. Black matte. Yes, black matte. Sure I have bottles of matte topcoat I could just put over black, but I had to see if a black-matte-on-purpose polish looked different than a shiny black made matte.

This is two mediumish coats. Super fast dry time. You have to be quick and careful with this one. Still- Totally worth it. And here's why:

That is two coats of shiny black polish (Maybelline: Onyx Rush, it's the quickest one to get to so I use it a lot) with matte topcoat. You see that oily-rainbow sheen when the light hits it? Cleopatra has none of that.

See? It may not seem like a big deal to some, but for polish-aholics it's a good enough reason to buy matte polish and save the matte topcoat for other things. Like glitters and flakies. ;)

Don't know for sure if I'll post tomorrow. It's Halloween and our 13 year anniversary and we've got a ton of stuff lined up. Going to be a busy busy day. If I don't see you, everybody take care and be safe (keep your furbabies indoors, please!) and have a super fun Happy Halloween!!! (^_^)"/"

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Release Party

Okay, I just spent way too much time on Tumblr. lol So last night was actually the release of three games, but Black Flag was the only one that had us! In costume! These costumes:

We've done pirates before so his costume is the old one I made a few years ago with a different shirt. Mine is totally different because we couldn't find my 'wench' dress. Which is just as well because it's a little too boobalicious. Since he was Blackbeard of course he had his swords, six pistols and the "lit cannon fuses" come out from his hat.

Last time he wore black contacts for this costume; this time he decided to go more "scurvy pirate" and wore these weird yellow ones.

I went a bit more understated.

I'm like a backup dancer. lol And even though nobody else (aside from Amanda who works there) dressed up I think he would have won the costume contest anyway. Not like I'm biased or anything. I'm totally not. ;) For winning he got this LE... picture thing having to do with the game.

So it wasn't as exciting as the Batman release. It was still fun to dress up. For a time. My feet felt like they were bleeding by the time we got home. I think if I ever had to resort to being a hooker... I'd have to hook in sneakers.

Norma hooked me up with her predicted polish schedule, so I'm going to hold off on posting Cygnus Loop until she gets to it. (will be totally worth the wait!) Tomorrow is still going to be Cleopatra which I'm so glad I went for. (you'll find out why tomorrow hehehe) In the meantime I have plenty of other lovelies to share so c'mon back! Hope everyone's having a fantastic week. (^_^)"/" I'm going to go take another nap. lol

Essence: Divalicious Red & BPS Halloween Decals

So busy. All I want to do is sit here and play Sims... and sleep. Still doing my nails and getting pictures. Trying not to slack too badly posting. If I get in the habit of skipping days willy nilly before you know it I won't be posting at all. >_> Can't have that. Blogging is cathartic.

What isn't cathartic is this weird highly pigmented yet overly sheer red that everybody releases and I keep ending up with more and more bottles of... this time it goes by the name Divalicious Red.

Two coats, dried quickly... not my cup of tea. Fortunately the super cute Halloween water decals I ordered from BornPrettyStore got here to cover up the mess.

I can't find them again on the site. :( They popped up during their Halloween sale and there were four different sheets. I could only afford two so I picked 19 and 20 for the cute little trick-or-treaters.

We've also got some ghosts, spiders and "Happy Halloween".

So adorable. So easy to use! Gotta thank Jasmine for introducing me to the joys of water decals. And, of course, BornPrettyStore has a huge selection for super cheap (and free worldwide shipping!) so that should keep me happy for a long while.

Tonight is the Assassin's Creed: Black Flag release. We're going as pirates. lol So I'll have pics of that tomorrow, swatching Cleopatra on Wednesday, then Thursday I should have another super multi-chrome surprise for you. Hope everyone's week is off to a good start! (^_^)"/"

Essence: Not Punky Nor Funky

So... very... sleepy.... *snores* But I have pretty glitters! Not Punky Nor Funky is a super fun glitter from the Be Loud collection. The formula was nice, but the glitters kinda splooshed around so I did have to work a little to make sure they went on evenly. This is one coat and (since I wore this yesterday) it was super easy to remove. Oh yeah, this is layered over two coats of Hello Kitty Bubble Gum, which I wore for the midnight release.

The mix of glitters in this is so much fun. Silver/holo bars, black squares, medium hex in light and dark pink and gold, teensy little pink ones, and a few large iridescent hexes. I was a bit nervous when I noticed that the gold ones were a bit scalloped, but they are not all curly and a layer of topcoat smoothed everything out nicely.

Dried quickly and super pretty. I don't understand at all why this collection didn't make it over here.

Spent most of yesterday going through Aaron's FX pics. Costumes, masks, props, makeups, etc. So many pictures and *ahem* he's not the best organizer so they were kind of everywhere. lol I persevered and finally have them all cropped and sized and uploaded here. I hope that's the right link. It is a public album so if you want to just peruse through you can.

I think I'm going to run a few quick scans on my computer (things I click on keep getting stuck on the screen) and take a nap. >_> I suspect nothing overly important will happen while I'm down. lol Hope everyone's having a great weekend so far! (^_^)"/"

The Sunshine Award

YAY!! Thanks so much to Amy Yelton from Small Budget Beauty for nominating me! ^_^ This makes me so happy that I can bring inspiration/sunshine into somebody's life. *blushes*

What is the Sunshine Award?

The sunshine award is an award given to those who inspire us and bring sunshine into our lives.

And there are a few simple rules:
*Include the award logo in your blog post
*Link to the person who nominated you
*Answer 10 questions about yourself
*Nominate other bloggers

Let's see... what would Amy like to know...

1. What is your favorite time of the year?
Right now! Fall in general, Halloween time especially.

2. What do you like most about blogging?
Having my own little spot in cyberspace to share my passions with other amazing people. ^_^

3. Do you match your toe nail color to your finger nail color?
LOL!! Norma and I were just talking about this. Not usually, but sometimes.

4. What is your favorite quote?
"Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke" ~my dad

5. Do you save old greeting cards and letters? Throw them away?
I recycle them if I can. I appreciate the sentiment, but... after a while it's just clutter. I guess I should take pictures of them to save.

6. What is something about yourself that you hope will change, but probably never will?
The instant rage that comes over me when I see a pregnant woman.

7. What’s one of the scariest things you’ve ever done?
Aaron, his sister and I were out at this cemetery in Holland, TX taking pictures trying to find ghosts and there was this huge (gorgeous!) abandoned house off a path from it. I got up close to the house, by myself, to get some better pictures of the sides and back.

8. If you could try out any job for a day, what would you like to try?
CEO of a multi-billion dollar corporation. To see if the work they do is worth what they pay themselves. I have my doubts.

9. Have you ever met any celebrities?
Yes! We met a few wrestlers at signing events; and we also met Elvira who is just the nicest person and absolutely stunning in real life.

10. If you had an unlimited shopping spree at one store, which store would it be?
One of those Models Own bottle shops. I know it's rather limiting, but I would grab every single polish and do a humongous giveaway!

And my nominees are:

Jasmine: The Happy Sloths
Cristy: Cristy's Crazy Corner
Abbie: Abbienail
and The Nail Buff

You girls just make my days! Here are your questions!

1. Where is your favorite place to take a nap.
2. What is your favorite color?
3. Would you rather go to 'heaven' or reincarnate and try it all again?
4. Where do socks go when they disappear out of the dryer?
5. What color is on your nails right now?
6. Netflix or Hulu Plus?
7. What one place would you like to visit that you haven't?
8. Do you sing out loud when you're alone in the car?
9. Why did you start blogging?
10. If the world was going to end what one animal species would you save?

*phew* That gets harder every time. lol I love all you guys so much. I was just thinking how lucky I am to have some of the best readers on the internet. Each of you holds a special place in my heart. *tears up* I hope everyone has an amazing weekend. (^_^)"/"

Arkham Origins Midnight Release Party

I have to say, last night's midnight release was absolutely my favorite so far; and we didn't even get the game! LOL But getting to hang out with awesome people in awesome costumes is... pretty awesome.

Since the game is called "Origins" Aaron dressed up as the more old-school Scarecrow (before the gas mask) and I dressed up as Dr. Harleen Quinzel. Harley, before she goes crazy.

I had an "official" name tag and my Arkham Asylum clipboard and Aaron made this wicked pumpkin that even had a green strobe light in it.

We got there early so we had time to hang out with Tracey and Amanda (they work there) before people started showing up.

There was a guy (Joshua) who works there dressed as Batman, then another Batman showed up with Black Mask.

They were both really cool and not shy about posing for photo ops.

That was cool enough, but then out of nowhere we got The Riddler!! Yeah, I was totally stoked cuz Riddler wears green. hehehe

Everyone was super great and we had a fun time hanging out. I wasn't purposefully excluded from the boys club there. Batman tried to get me in on the pictures, but that just made me shy and I hid behind my clipboard. lol I know! I'm awful. My main purpose, though, is to make sure I get plenty of pictures and I got a Mission Accomplished on that one. Still need to go through and finish compiling Aaron's portfolio pictures and get those onto the tablet and uploaded to facebook. Once I do I'll share the link (everywhere! muahahaha) so y'all can see. (^_^)"/"

Essence: Blood Orange Smoothie & Julep: Beatrix (with Norma!)

Hey everybody. Miss me? Notice I was even gone? *bats eyes* Had a bit of a glitch in the matrix yesterday that left us without internet (and, for some reason, cell reception) for a few hours yesterday. By the time it came back on I was elbow deep in the future and, well, my Sim needed me. lol

I was going to do green, but I decided that since I was going to do the plumbob that I would use a contrasting color for the base. Hence Blood Orange Smoothie.

Three coats to eradicate the phantom dirt line. Super fast drying. Absolutely love the color! Such a bright, fun orange. :D I think these foot ones are scented... They have a slight mintiness to them.

I freehanded the plumbob using Mystic Grass for the background and Green Grass for the outline.

Ta-da! All caught up on stuff and expansion packs, just missing a few of the neighborhoods (and a crapton of stuff from the e-store). And a fresh gaming computer to play it the way I really want to..

On to Beatrix. Norma wore it first and warned me that Beatrix is super gloopy. For real, like rubber cement. So I added some thinner and realized the one problem with these tall, skinny bottles. They're really hard to shake!

There's Norma's mani without thinner. You can see the hard time she had spreading the glitters around. :(

That is after a few squirts of polish thinner and actually using the wand to stir it in there. :p Much much nicer and the thinner base didn't hinder the glitter pick-up.

Yeah, I probably could have used a different base color, but I didn't think about it. lol

Tomorrow I'm dressing up as Dr. Quinzell for the Arkham Origins release party. So I'm probably going to have a soft pink or dark red polish... something mildly professional looking. No worries, I have plenty of new glitters to spice it up with for you guys. ;) I'll get plenty of pictures of our costumes so you guys can see. Time to go grab some stuff to print out since I fixed the printer. Need an ID tag and paperworks to look official. (^_^)"/" Take care, y'all!!

Essence: Like A Stone In The Wall & BPS Mustache Stickers Review

Yep. Totally late today. I took the most epic cat nap earlier; complete with cats. lol I'm here now, though, with a gorgeous (in it's own subdued way) essence polish: Like A Stone In The Wall.

I feel like there's some reference there I'm missing. I keep thinking Pink Floyd, but that's kinda really different... >_> Anyway, two coats, super smooth, ultra quick dry time. Color kind of reminds me of the weird gill thingies on the underside of mushrooms. In a good way. lol

Still, not a lot to it. Your basic cream. So I decided to try out these cute mustache stickers (set 24) from born pretty store.

I had to get these because they're funny! I don't get the whole mustache "craze", but it's funny. I think I got an 'off' sheet, though, because the clear sticker part didn't fully cover... well... any of the faces entirely.

It's not as obvious on just the 'stache, but on this monocled fellow I had to add his eye separately.

And this guy with the glasses lost his smile entirely.

Another review on the site mentioned having "a couple" of the designs off like this, but all of mine are. :( At least it was only 99cents and they're still usable. I'll just have to get a little creative. I don't know if I'll get any more of these, but... for 99cents I may... lol

Tomorrow I'm going to pick up my Sims: Into The Future. Went by today to upgrade my South Park pre-order and we all had a laugh because they got the game in today and mine was the lone Sims reserve in the box. So, yeah, going to do something green for tomorrow. Don't know if I'll be attempting to freehand a plumbob or not, but... perhaps. Also about to steal a cute little tag thing from Cristy so don't go too far! lol (^_^)"/"

Essence: Catwalk Pink (+Ciara Comparison)

Welcome back, everybody! *stretches* It's so much nicer in here with the 'new' air conditioner... I keep sleeping in late... >_> It's kinda nice, but I really should stop doing that. lol So today's polish was picked from my swap goodie pile in the spazziest fashion ever. I was taking the pictures for my collection page, saw the purple with blue shimmer and thought (quite incorrectly) "This is kinda like Ciara. I should compare them!" Ya know, since I still had Ciara within reach and before I forgot. So that is the *ahem* "logic" behind my picking Catwalk Pink.

Which isn't really what comes to mind when I think "pink". It's from the Show Your Feet line and is supposed to be full coverage in one coat. Logical if it's intended for your toes, right? Well, that's two coats and could have used a third. The shimmer is lovely, though. It doesn't hide or anything.

Also it did dry really quickly so that's a blessing. Formula-wise that's my favorite thing about (nearly) all of the essence polishes is how quick they dry.

Now... hehe... I took the side-by-side bottle shot in the shade for two reasons. One: because the glare was killing me the sparkle and Two: so maybe you can understand why I didn't realize how different Catwalk Pink and Ciara are until application...

They look kinda close there, right? Without any kind of proper lighting on them? Maybe?...

*pffft* Not even close. lol I don't even feel the need to describe the difference because it's just hilariously obvious. Ah well... can't all be winners.

We've got so much coming up. Arkham Origins release on the 24th, Black Flag release on the 28th, Halloween/anniversary on the 31st, then we're going to Austin to see Rocky Horror November 2nd. o_O Nearly makes me want to hide in the cushion fort until my birthday. lol Guess I should post up and finish digging out Aaron's costume/prop pictures to transfer to the tablet. Hope everyone's having an amazing weekend! (^_^)"/"

Calves Of The Corn

Aaron had a great birthday, got to see a ton of people and picked up some more Halloween/FX supplies. :) And I'm finishing off The Week of the Cow with my entry into the Polish Yer Hooves Giveaway. Admittedly I've never seen Children of the Corn, but I get the gist of it. Aaron watched part of it a few nights ago while I was falling asleep and inspiration hit! Cows and corn go together like peas and carrots! And so was born Calves Of The Corn!

Moo? lol Okay okay we all know I suck at art. Still, it very nearly came out exactly the way I pictured it.

I started with two coats of essence Catwalk Pink (swatch post for that coming tomorrow). I drew on the shadowy cow figures with Zoya Evvie and Noot, using a dotting tool. Finishing those off with essence Divalicious Red for their evil glowing eyes.

Next I sponged on some spooky fog with Julep Annette then added the cornstalks in China Glaze Tree Hugger.

Stuck on some little corns with China Glaze Solar Power, little more fog, matte topcoat and voila!

Calves of the Corn. Do I think it's a winner? Not after seeing the super cute and skillfully drawn zombie cow. o_O But that's okay. I had fun coming up with this idea and trying (even mildly successfully) to pull it off. I hope you enjoy it as well. (^_^)"/" Take care, everybody!

Polish Yer Hooves: Blue Mooon & Greener Pastures Revisited

Hey, everybody! Wanna know a secret? I typed this yesterday. Yep, today (for real today) is Aaron's birthday and I wanted to make sure I got this up. Preemptive strike! hehehe As you know we finally got some sun yesterday so I went ahead and re-swatched Blue Mooon and Greener Pastures. If you'd like to read (or re-read) my full review click here. First up:

Blue Mooon! Gorgeous. I knew sun would be good for this one.

Quick update on Greener Pastures: Leigh Anne has worked on the formula and the bottle you get will be much more opaque! Even so I did promise I'd show this over some green undies and you know I love some green sparkle, so...

This is two coats of Greener Pastures (beta version) over (left to right): French White Creme, Iced Mint Frappe, Def Defying and Perfect Mol-ten. I like it over Def Defying the best.

Bit of a different angle for you. Again, these colors (and others!) can be found in the Polish Yer Hooves etsy shop. Drop her a line! She's really sweet. ^_^

Now to see if the "post this later" function works. If not, I guess you get a twofer today. Interesting note: "twofer" is not flagged as a typo. Hope everyone's had a fantastic week!! (^_^)"/" Come on back tomorrow to see my entry for the Polish Yer Hooves Giveaway!

Polish Yer Hooves: The Divine Bovine and The Purple Cow

The sun came out! So now I have some proper pictures to share with you, along with my reviews of The Divine Bovine and The Purple Cow. Starting with three coats of The Divine Bovine.

Absolutely stunning. I think this is my favorite Star Grazers color. The formula was amazing, super easy to apply and quick drying. Just look at the sparkle!

Definitely adding a full bottle to my wishlist. I did add topcoat on alternating fingers, but it's not really noticeable.

The sparkle in The Purple Cow is not quite as evident, but I am loving the color!

Gorgeous purple-leaning-pinkish. Girly, but not sickeningly so. Again, alternating topcoat and texture. I love the texture.

I really tried to capture the sparkle. Again this is three coats, super smooth application, fast drying.

There is some holo sparkle, but not overly flashy. The color is the real winner in this one for me.

Again, you can find The Divine Bovine and The Purple Cow in the Polish Yer Hooves etsy shop by clicking on their names there. Between you and me *looks around* this would be a great way to get some scented texture polish. Or if you don't like texture, one layer of topcoat does the trick. Or you can get it unscented.

Mr. Weatherman says it's supposed to rain again tomorrow so I took advantage of today's sun and re-swatched Greener Pastures and Blue Mooon. Come on back and see those sparkle tomorrow! (^_^)"/"
