I- I- I- IKEA!!

Anybody else old enough to remember Night At The Roxbury? lol *ahem* Yes, I finally made it to IKEA! Something that I have not read and only learned today, and will now share with you, apparently one must be inducted into IKEA by someone who has already been there before. Is this official? I doubt it; but I could not have made it through that massive behemoth of a store without Brak's help. She was also inducted by someone. It is a very overwhelming store. I mean, c'mon, this place is huge!!

That's only half of it!! So huge is the IKEA that they offer maps even though there is a path that runs through the store with arrows pointing the way.

Brak and I made our way through IKEA at a relatively brisk pace. Me looking side-to-side quickly scanning for the Helmers while exclaiming "oh cool!" and "I want that!" and "I love IKEA!" every few moments. I think she got a little tired of hearing it. hehehe

Eventually we did find the Helmers and she told me, "Now you write down the aisle and bin numbers so we can find them in the warehouse". So I did.

We made our way through the rest of the store fairly quickly, stopping a few times so she could show me their "mini-houses" which I loved! When we finally got to the warehouse and located the Helmers we discovered they were heavier than I thought they would be (think giant bag of dog food) so we had to backtrack for a cart. Finally finally we got my preciousses into the car!

Yep, grabbed a catalogue. We still had to go to REI (r.e.i.?) and then I still had to go out to grab stuff with Aaron. Finally I was able to sit down and assemble my Helmers. I had help. lol

Hurray!

The directions were not difficult to follow at all. I was particularly proud when I grabbed the right bars for the right side the first time!

Icarus is not quite as impressed with me as I was with myself...

The most fun part for me was putting the drawers together. They start out flat! XD

Perfect fit!

Ta-da!!

The first one took me about 45 minutes to assemble; the second only 20 minutes. It was so easy and so fun. I could assemble Helmers for a living.

Now, the part that I'm sure Sandy is chomping at the bit for. lol Specs! Realistic specs such as: A Helmer will take up about as much floor space as a slightly pudgy housecat!

LOL *ahem* Okay, so my previous (and also current) polish storage solution was these 3-drawer deals from Walmart. The Helmer is slightly bigger than those.

Mostly I like that the drawers will prevent me from getting sloppy and just piling polish on top of itself.

Yes, I had to rearrange some stuff and my makeup box ended up taking up a former drawer space.

I don't know if they do it anywhere else, but around here for high school graduation there is a furniture store that gives away these free wooden "memory" boxes. The drawer is exactly as wide and deep as one of those. (yes, mine needs cleaning; it's been through a lot)

"But Lizzy! What about polish?!" OMG I'm getting there. lol I started a drawer of Juleps because that seemed easiest.

One Helmer drawer is twelve Juleps wide and... decidedly more than that longways.

Hopefully I will end up with more drawer space than I currently know what to do with, but... I'm not getting my hopes up. lol

I am going to take some asprin and fire up Sims. Also try to get some of this polish actually organized. *fingers crossed* Uhm... yeah. Hope everyone's week is off to a great start! (^_^)"/"

Julep: Rochelle

Hurray! Getting my Juleps done before the next box gets here. ^_^ Yes, all of a sudden I'm back to the Julep boxes. They kind of tricked me this time with their free transformative topcoat deal. I fell for it. Quickly and easily. No shame!!

*ahem* Today! Two coats of Julep Rochelle, a very pretty deep purple.

Ya like how off that looks in the overcast daylight? I had to go inside and take a picture in the dark to get it to come out right.

There we are. Rochelle. Purple. Opaque in two coats, but I did have some drying issues even after using the drops. Ah well, it's still pretty.

*eep* Tomorrow's the big day! Is it crazy that I'm a little nervous? Here's hoping everything works out. I haven't moved anything around because I'm not sure exactly how big the Helmers are or how they'll fit into my current corner configuration. We will see! And, of course, there will be pictures. Hope everyone has had a great weekend. Y'all take care! (^_^)"/"

Adventures In Curling

Hair curling! I do like curling the sport, but... definitely more the watching than the doing. Ice is cold. lol

So, yes, my wonderful hubby got me a curling iron for Christmas. Same brand as my flatiron (Conair?) so the buttons and dial set up are exactly the same. No having to learn anything new! hehehe It's your basic clamp style curling iron and I'm sure we all know what that looks like (and I'm too lazy to go get a picture now) so let's get started with my curling adventure.

First thing I had to do was straighten my hair. Curling curls just seemed silly, also... the frizz.

I didn't bother going for pin-straight, just de-frizzed.

Then I clipped my hair up into three horizontal sections. I have retained a few tips from my youth. lol

Starting at the bottom and working my way up. Seems like no matter how I started, I always ended up like this:

My hair is so stubborn I had it just as hot as it would get and had to hold it there for 20seconds per section. >_< My arms got pretty tired.

By the time I got to the top of my head I couldn't just let my neck keep my hair separate anymore. Oh no! I had to go with this maneuver here:

Thankfully I didn't end up with a purple strip up my nose. Last section!!

That's my "I'm so ready to be done now..." face. lol

And voila!

Nice loose-yet-structured curls. For... about an hour...

GYAH!! I think I should have picked up some hairspray or something. At least once they fell that far they didn't fall much further by the end of the day:

So... yeah. Even though my hair is naturally curly it does not like holding a curl.

So between this moderate success and my previous failure I've learned a few things. 1- Hairspray 2- Make sure the curling iron gets SUPER hot before starting 3- Three sections, not two. Now to just figure out how to get the curls to lay properly so they don't puff out at the sides of my face when I do get them to come out. If any of you out there are regular hair curlers and have any additional tips for me, I'm all ears!!

That's it for me today. Tomorrow I'll have a swatch of Julep Rochelle. At some point Norma is going to throw together a complete review of ILNP's ultra-chrome flakies for us!! So excited for that. Anybody grab anything good from the myriad of end-of-year sales? I broke down and ordered some more Formula X polishes through Sephora's Extra 20% Off Sale sale. While I'm on it, I also ordered Butter London Petrol with amazon cards I redeemed through mPoints, a mobile rewards program. If there is enough interest I can do a post on that. In the meantime, I'm about to try out SH Sun Sheen. Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend! (^_^)"/"

Born Pretty Store Stamping Plate BP29 #SBBNailChallenge

Hello and happy Friday! Today I'm super thrilled to be sharing with you Nail Art Theme Nail Art Stamp Template Image Plate BORN PRETTY 29... This:

How freakin' amazing is that?! As soon as I saw it I knew I had to have it. For #SBBNailChallenge 20 - Last Nail Purchase I paired BornPrettyStore plate BP29 with Models Own Hot Pink and Wet n Wild Black Creme.

I was most surprised that the big drips came out as well as they did. For the most part the designs transferred quite well. I did have some slight issues with the "Keep Calm And Polish On" lettering, but I think that may have more to do with the curve in my nails than anything. *boo*

And I didn't quite get the lady's entire arm transferred. Oops.

Overall I am loving this plate!! The designs just make me so giddy. Currently Nail Art Theme Nail Art Stamp Template Image Plate BORN PRETTY 29 is in stock and selling for $2.99. Use code EMX31 for 10% off. Free shipping! And...

Ka-chick!

So tomorrow I'll have my hair post, Sunday will be Julep Rochelle and then hopefully I'll have some Helmer pics for you on Monday! Until then I hope everybody has an amazing (and safe) weekend! (^_^)"/"

Models Own: Hot Pink

Hello, loves! Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas. Those of you who celebrate. Today I've got two coats of Models Own Hot Pink over a coat of white. I'm starting with a "tester" pic I took the other night in my room with the flash because this one ended up being the most color accurate. :p

Not quite as neon as I'm used to, but a very nice, bright pink.

So here's what happened when I tried to go outside for pictures today...

Uhm... what is that?

Well... I certainly have no idea what happened there. Glad I got that first picture.

So tomorrow I'm going to combine a #SBBNailChallenge post with my review of BPS plate BP29, then Friday I'm going to have a hair post detailing my adventures in curling. It's kind of funny so you'll want to come back for that. Or not. I dunno. Assuming nothing goes awry I should be on my way to IKEA on Monday! hehehe Helmer helmer hel-mer! Helmer helmer hel-mer! Going to see if I can manage two. That would be exceptionally helpful. If not, one would be fantastic. Just going to have to clean up around my area a bit.

Anybody get any nice polish-related goodies for xmas? Please, share!! I'm jonsing. lol So, yes, that is what is coming up. Time to post up and take stock around here. Y'all take care out there!! (^_^)"/"

Born Pretty Store Stamping Plate BP-07

Hello, lovelies! Today I'm going to review the Butterfly Nail Art Stamp Template Image Plate BORN PRETTY 07 from Born Pretty Store. This is another plate that I got during their $0.99 sale, but it is currently on sale for only $1.49! Yes, this one is in stock! Let's check out the plate:

The first thing that caught my attention was the floral strip in the middle. I thought this would be super easy to use horizontally with different images per nail; or vertically for when my nails get longer! I really love the layout of this plate. Let's take a closer look at the images, shall we?

Starting with the sort of tribal looking design on the top-left:

Due to the intricacy of the design I had to be sure to scrape firmly the first time and get the image transferred quickly so the polish didn't dry between steps. This isn't my favorite image, but it did transfer very well and covered my nails completely.

Up next, the delicate butterflies in the top-right:

I was very concerned that the thin lines were going to give me problems in-transit, but I only had minimal issues and didn't have to re-do any of my nails. I love how delicate and feminine this one is.

Now the moment of truth! Floral strip:

Since my nails are on the shorter side, I went horizontally across the plate and divided up the flowers. The design has enough going on that even when I got the border-line in there it wasn't really noticeable.

I really like this concept and hope to see more plates incorporate this kind of image-strip in the future!

Last, but not least, the not-full-nail swirls:

It looks like the images are really close together on the plate, but it wasn't difficult to divide them up to create different designs on my nails. I really like this one, too. It's fun and quirky!

So what do you think of Plate BP-07? I'm really happy with it. Very easy to use, versatile and the full images actually cover! If you check them out don't forget to use my code EMX31 for 10% off and always free shipping! I'm not sure how tomorrow is going to go so Merry Christmas to those of you who celebrate! Take care of yourselves out there. (^_^)"/"

Wet n Wild: Queen Of Envy +Nail Mail

I feel a bit bad getting to this so late. Aaron picked up Queen Of Envy for me a little after Halloween. *oops* OMG I love it, though! Perfect "slimy" green; bright but not your standarn "neon green" bright. hehehe This is two coats of Queen Of Envy over one coat of Julep Hope:

Interestingly, the first coat wasn't streaky at all, but the second one was a little bit... That's okay, though. You'll be seeing how I fix that tomorrow when I review another multi-big-image BPS plate.

Speaking of Born Pretty Store plates, check these out!!

OMG!!! I've been waiting for these so I could do #SBBNailChallenge - 20 - Last Nail Purchase. hehehe Have to get to it before Julep takes my money so it still counts! Yes, I'm referring to that awesome polish-themed plate on the left. I'm going to go ahead and let Models Own Hot Pink jump queue for the occasion since that's one of my most recent polish purchases and when I ordered these plates I had pink in mind for it. Double relevant! Yes, that means I'll have hot pink nails for Christmas. If anybody is surprised... >_> That's their problem not mine. lol

Time to go straighten my hair... Got two days with the in-laws ahead of me and I won't have a lot of time to make myself look human. So, yeah, fun stuff coming up. With luck I'll be able to get my hair curly-pretty for the 25th so I can get better pics of that. Uhm.... yeah. I think that's it. Hope everybody has a happy, safe and fulfilling holiday extended-weekend; whatever that may mean for you. I should be here... don't want to get too far behind. Y'all take care out there! (^_^)"/"

Blessed Yule Mani #SBBNailChallenge +Nail Mail

Blessed Yule, Happy First Day of Winter and a resounding Happy Birthday to my daddy. ^_^

So, today's #SBBNailChallenge is 23 - Inspired By Winter. What better day to do this one than the first day of winter?

Yeah, kind of a lot going on. lol I started with a sponged gradient with Wet n Wild French White Creme and China Glaze Bahamian Escape. Then I added a coat of Julep O Canada! because they, at least, get snow and also for my favorite Canadian polish buddy! Then, apparently, my only snowflake stamp came with that bizarre stamping contraption thingy so I used that and KleanColor Metallic Aqua. Topped the whole thing off with a coat of Polish Yer Hooves Snowfall.

Very wintery! If not exactly "Texas" wintery. lol

Ka-chick! Really liking how this turned out. Might keep it for a while. I do have a lot of untrieds, though, so... we'll see.

Nail mail!! So Llarowe had a huge end-of-year sale that I just had to take advantage of:

Models Own Coral Reef, Hot Pink & Orange Sorbet and Color Club Not-So-Mellow Yellow & Tribe And True. *squee* Check this out:

WHAT?! Yeah. I wish I had had more money. lol Still, new Models Own is always exciting.

So.... who all lives someplace that feels like winter? Show of hands? It's been in the mid-50s to mid-60s here. Chilly but not unbearable. Uhm... I'm at a loss for how to wrap this up, so... (^_^)"/" Y'all stay safe and have a happy holidays!!
